A brace of penalties from Dean Morgan and a goal apiece from Joel Grant and skipper Dave Winfield earned the Blues a convincing 4-0 victory over York.
Blues took just two minutes to take the lead when Morgan converted from the spot after being brought down and the forward added his second before the break after Grant had been fouled by Jamal Fyfield.
Grant added a fine individual third in the 58th minute before Winfield wrapped up the points with a powerful header 12 minutes from time.
Top scorer Matt McClure returned to the Wanderers side in place Jo Kuffour in the only change to the team that beat Gillingham 1-0 on Monday. Fit-again Leon Johnson was amongst the substitutes after being sidelined since early December with a knee injury.
Gareth Ainsworth’s side were quick out of the blocks and took the lead in the second minute. Morgan dispossessed Scott Kerr on the edge of the area and was then brought down by the midfielder for a clear penalty.
Morgan dusted himself down to take the spot-kick and made no mistake from 12 yards, firing high past Michael Ingham for his sixth of the season.
York responded well and looked threatening on the counter attack, but it was the Blues who had the next effort and it came in the 10th minute when Joel Grant shot wide from the edge of the area after good hold-up play from Morgan.
Wanderers were denied a second in the 18th minute when Ingham did superbly well to deny Sam Wood from close-range after the York defence had failed to deal with Joel Grant’s right-wing cross.
The visitors backline looked susceptible to crosses into the box and a feature of the Blues’ early play was Charles Dunne bursting forward from the left-back position.
York’s first real chance came in the 28th minute when Matty Blair reacted quickest to Curtis Obeng’s cross from the right, but he was well off target from eight yards, firing harmlessly into the terrace.
Wycombe responded well to that York attack and Grant headed Michael Harriman’s cross over the bar after Morgan had seen a 25-yard drive blocked.
Ingham came to York’s rescue in the 39th minute after Morgan latched on to McClure’s long ball, turned his man inside out and then shot left-footed across goal from 10 yards.
Stuart Lewis saw an effort blocked by York skipper Chris Smith after a quick Chairboys break involving Morgan and Grant.
Blues got the second their first-half display in injury-time and again it came from the penalty spot. A raking cross-field ball found Grant in space in the right and he drove into the area before being brought down by Jamal Fyfield.
Morgan again made no mistake from 12 yards smashing the ball down the middle of the goal with Ingham diving to his left.
The visitors made a double change at the break, bringing on former Wycombe loanee Ashley Chambers and Alex Rodman.
And York started well with Daniel Parslow heading Blair’s corner wide from close-range.
However, it was still the Chairboys who looked the most dangerous and they added a superb third in the 58th minute. Scowen and Grant combined to win the ball in midfield and the latter broke forward, beat one defender with a stepover and burst past another before calmly slotting past Ingham from 10 yards.
York should have pulled one back four minutes later, but top scorer Jason Walker fired Rodman’s cross over from five yards.
Wood sliced a volley wide from Scowen’s free-kick and then he and Morgan got in each other’s way as they both tried to slide in Andrade’s low cross after a fine break from the winger.
Skipper Dave Winfield thought he had headed in a fourth in the 76th minute, but his effort crashed back off the crossbar and was cleared behind. However, from the resulting Scowen corner, Winfield again lost his marker and powerfully headed past Ingham from eight yards.
York didn’t have their first shot on target until the 89th minute and substitute Rodman’s strike from the edge of the area was comfortable for Archer.
