Matt McClure says boss Gareth Ainsworth was a major reason behind him signing a new deal at Adams Park until the summer of 2015.
Blues’ top scorer has come to the fore under Ainsworth, netting nine goals in 18 appearances, including eight in his last 12.
“I didn’t want to move on and not be playing,” McClure told Chairboys Player.
“Gaz has got faith in me and as long as he’s here than I’ve got a good chance of playing every week. Just playing football and enjoying it was a major factor.
“As soon as he came in it was totally different for me. Gary Waddock didn’t really fancy me at the start of the season and I think in Gaz’s first game he put me on at half-time. It’s snowballed from there really and I’ve started most games.”
McClure added: “I’ve just started getting a good run of games and I’m enjoying my football at the moment and working under Gaz.
“We’ve got a good group here and we’re looking good as well at the moment, bar Tuesday. I’m excited about the next couple of years.”
Slough-born McClure says he felt he had more to prove than most whilst progressing through the ranks at the Chairboys because of how close to the club he lives.
He said: “Coming through here and being quite local, it’s important for me to prove that I can score goals for the first team. I did it in the youth team, but missed some chances when I got on after first coming through.
“I think some people thought that I wouldn’t kick on and be able to do it, but I’m glad that I’ve shown that I can and hopefully I can score many more.”
