Gaz expecting a backlash

15 April 2013

Gareth Ainsworth says his side are well aware of the threat that Tuesday’s opponents Northampton Town will pose.

The promotion-chasers go into the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat to York City and Blues’ boss is expecting a reaction from Aidy Boothroyd’s men.

He said: “Aidy is a manager who has a reputation of coming at people. They’ll bombard us and we’ll have to be ready for that, but it’s a different Wycombe side to the one that went to Sixfields earlier on in the season.

“Although I was in charge then it was very early days and I think we have more of an identity now.

“We have a lot of passion and desire in the side which is what I wanted to get in there. It’s not only that, tactically we do the right things, we play the right balls and we can score some great goals on the break.

“There could be a few changes because I don’t want to make the same mistake of having tired legs out there and not be able to perform at 100%, but then again there might not be any.”

Wanderers produced one of their best attacking performances of the season on Saturday to beat Aldershot 2-1 and, despite having already secured their place in League 2, Ainsworth insists the Chairboys will not be taking any game lightly before the end of the campaign.

He said: “I want finish in the top half and keep winning games as you take that into next season.

“We’ll be professional until the end and I could play any of these 25 players I’ve got and be sound of mind that they will play well and give me everything they’ve got.”
