Ainsworth: Places up for grabs

28 September 2012

Caretaker boss Gareth Ainsworth says every Wycombe player will get the chance to impress – starting at Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday (k.o 3pm).

Wanderers travel to east London looking to kick-start their season and Ainsworth, who was handed temporary charge on Monday, revealed the squad have been chomping at the bit in training.

He said: “The older players have been fantastic and have said 'Gaz we're behind you and we're with you' and I have told them this is my way now and if they all listen and we all pull in the right direction we won't go far wrong.

“The younger boys – I couldn't ask for a better bunch. We have some real enthusiasm and they just want it so much. They probably see this as an opportunity and if they work hard and are passionate they will get a chance under me.

“I have different ideas without giving too much away and it won't be exactly the same. There will be chances for players who haven't had chances yet and there will be changes.

“There are a few positions where I want to make changes and a few players on the fringes who could come into the squad. It would be very naïve to give my starting XI on my first game so I will keep that one close to my chest.”
