Sam Wood says he persuaded caretaker boss Gareth Ainsworth to allow him to play longer than intended against Watford on Tuesday.
Wood, who has missed the last seven weeks with a knee injury, was only pencilled in to play the first half of the 2-0 victory, but the winger felt fit enough to stay out on the pitch.
“It’s a good feeling, it’s been a long time,” Wood told Chairboys Player. “It’s just good to get out there, get my boots on and kick a ball around, instead of sitting in the physio room and then doing running. I enjoyed it and I just want to get back into the first team.”
Wood added: “I got 55 minutes, but I was only meant to play 45. I twisted Gaz’s arm to let me stay on longer and the physio came out and had a word with him and he had to pull me off – I took the rap for it.
“The pitch was a little bit heavy so it was a test for my leg as well and that helped out. I trained on Monday and that was tough and I was aching, but I got through the game and I’m just going to keep pushing on.”
