Striker Matt McClure could return to the squad for Saturday’s trip to Port Vale.
“It will be a big bonus when he’s back, but we need him 100% fit and ready to take on any challenge.”
Ainsworth added: “He’s doing some strengthening work and got some programmes to do. It’s horrible for Matt because sometimes you just wish you had an ankle or knee injury – something specific.
“I suffered with groin problems in my Wimbledon days and sometimes you think you’re two weeks away, but it’s just that last little bit to go.”
“It’s slowly, slowly with Matt,” Ainsworth told Chairboys Player. “It was probably wrong of us to say that he was going to be out for a couple of weeks because you can’t really say with a groin injury.
Meanwhile, caretaker manager Gareth Ainsworth says Matt Bloomfield won’t be rushed in his recovery from a problematic groin injury.
McClure resumed full training on Thursday after coming off at half-time in the 2-1 win Torquay United with a hamstring problem.
