Ainsworth after away-day success

16 November 2012

Gareth Ainsworth says his Wycombe squad relish the opportunity of upsetting the odds when they go on the road.

The Chairboys make the relatively short trip to Northampton Town on Saturday and come up against a side that played 120 minutes on Tuesday before being knocked out of the FA Cup on penalties by Bradford City.

“I’m sure Aidy Boothroyd will have Northampton recovered and ready for Saturday,” Ainsworth told wwfc.com. “I’m not expecting any fatigue and we will have to be at our best at what we do away from home.

“They have two big-uns up front in (Clive) Platt and (Adebayo) Akinfenwa. They are good players in this league and will be a handful. If we play like we can and concentrate on what we do then I think we will give them a good game.

“It’s difficult to change your style home or away. Maybe the lads have a different mental approach when we go away. We are going into someone else’s house and we are the underdogs.

“At home we maybe put pressure on ourselves, but away from home no-one expects Wycombe to do anything. We have players in this team that can go and hurt defences and Saturday will be no exception.”
