Gary: "Something to build on"

16 July 2012

Gary Waddock says that the performance at Farnborough gives him plenty of encouragement as the pre-season schedule starts to intensify.

"We've got a number of pre-season games in the programme to get their match fitness as we go along. There's no point taking any silly worries with us going into next week or the weeks after. We'll let them settle down and they'll be fine."

"He just felt something in his hamstring," said Waddock. "There's no point risking anyone at this stage. We've got a few players out already with bumps so there's no point taking a risk.

Richard Logan, however, was substituted 27 minutes into his Wycombe debut, but the decision to withdraw the striker was purely precautionary.

Waddock said: "His second goal was outstanding and he has just carried on where he left off last year. He has been sharp in training and has worked very hard."

Stuart Beavon scored both of Wycombe's goals, with the second an exquisite chip over Farnborough keeper Craig Bradshaw.

It was a good start for us. We need to sharpen up but that will come later in the pre-season. The opportunity is there for the players and they have to stake a claim." "

They have been first-class. They just got on with it and the facilities (at Farnborough) are very good. I have been pleased from day one and we have something to build on. "

"It was a fitness exercise and the most important thing is the lads got 45 minutes under their belts," Waddock said.

Wanderers won 2-1 at the Blue Square South side on Saturday with 19 players all getting valuable run-outs in a well-contested game.
