Dunne delight at first start

15 August 2012

Charles Dunne has vowed to keep his feet on the ground after making his first professional start last Saturday.

The 19-year-old left-back impressed during the 1-0 Capital One Cup defeat at Championship side Watford.

He said: “They’re all about my family and mean something to me. They’ll be more!”

As well as being a fan of his defensive team-mates, he doesn’t mind a tattoo either!

He also enjoyed lining up with Doherty, explaining: “He makes everyone feel comfortable - he’s such a dominant figure.”

“It was good to start our first competitive game together having come from the same area,” he said. “We’ve been mates for a long time and it felt good.”

Dunne – who made three substitute appearances last season - was joined in the back four by fellow young starlet and flat-mate Anthony Stewart, who also shone at the heart of the defence alongside captain Gary Doherty.

“But I’ve got to continue working as hard as I possibly can in training and in matches. I’ll keep my head down and keep going.”

“I started a few of the pre-season games so I wasn’t too surprised because I’ve been working hard and felt I deserved my chance.

“It was a good experience, I was chuffed to pieces”, he told wwfc.com.
