Wanderers were defeated 5-1 by a strong West Ham outfit in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Adams Park on Tuesday afternoon.
The hosts were 4-1 up at the break, with Alex Samuel notching for the hosts, before a more even second period saw the Hammers stretch their lead by a further goal.
Blues began brightly, almost scoring inside 60 seconds when Scott Kashket cut in from the right and teed up Alex Pattison, whose powerful drive was stopped by David Martin.
The Hammers broke the deadlock in style five minutes later, with Arthur Masuaku crashing home an unstoppable effort from 25 yards when the ball was cleared out to him.
It was 2-0 midway through the first half when Darius Charles’s backpass evaded David Stockdale and rolled into the net, but Wanderers halved the deficit almost immediately when J was met by Alex Pattison, and although David Martin made a superb save to tip the ball onto the bar, Alex Samuel was on hand to tuck it home.
West Ham restored their two-goal advantage through Manuel Lanzini’s accomplished finish from just inside the box, and Jarrod Bowen – who earlier struck the post with a thunderous effort - made it 4-1 with a simple tap-in after an excellent save from Stockdale.
Second-half keeper Ryan Allsop made a smart save from a free-kick, but it wasn’t long before the Hammers had a fifth as Bowen slide home from an assist from the left.
Uche Ikpeazu almost had a goal to cap his first home appearance for the Blues, but his deft flick was kept out after he outmuscled a defender in the box, and then Wanderers’ trialist right-midfielder did excellently to dance in the box and deliver a low shot which flew just wide of the far post with the final chance of the game.
