Amersham & Wycombe College has joined forces with Wycombe Wanderers Football Club to help talented young footballers to make progress in their academic and sporting careers.
The programme integrates a course of academic study gravitated around sport alongside a regime of high-intensity football training. The express purpose is to provide each student with a well developed and robust sense of what it is like to live the life of a trainee footballer.
The course is ideal for, and aimed at, those who have been released from professional football club academies or Centres of Excellence and possess the desire to reignite their dreams of becoming a professional footballer. (Applications are also welcomed from others who have not had exposure to professional clubs.)
Each programme includes 9-12 hours of coaching per week by highly qualified and experienced coaches, the majority of whom hold the prestigious UEFA 'A' licence, excellent training and fitness facilities and the chance to complete coaching, child protection and first aid courses.
At the same time, their College course will be a nationally recognised qualification, which will open up options for a number of careers including physiotherapy, sports coaching, sports development, the fitness profession or sports teaching. Alternatively, students may opt to continue their studies by attending University.
The students compete in four competitions:
English Colleges Football League (ECFA) South Division
Wycombe Wanderers FC Football Conference Youth League (PASE)
English Schools Football Association (ESFA) National Colleges Trophy
F.A. Youth Cup
