STRENGTH IN DEPTH
By Ross Jeavons
It goes without saying that not everyone will make it as a professional footballer, with many young players departing from their parent clubs before the dream of first team football becomes a reality.
However as 'Family Club of the Year" the Blues do have somewhat of a reputation to uphold - and so "exit routes" for departing youngsters are an accepted practice.
'Wycombe Wanderers MSC' may not be the most well known branch of the Chairboys who pull on the four quarters, but all the same they are a crucial element to the club.
Far from just concentrating on potential pro footballers, the scheme mainly attempts to integrate education the sporting world - giving youngsters an opportunity to learn whilst developing their sporting talent.
If you need any indication on just how high the standard of the scholars can be, then the evidence is plain for all to see.
Only recently three of the scholars were given the opportunity to train with members of the Wycombe Wanderers first team - taking part in sessions organised by European Cup winner Paul Lambert
Gareth Aldridge, Gianni Marrotta and Shane Wyllie recently attended a week's trial with the Wycombe Youth team after impressing coach Ben Williams and Youth Development Officer Gary Karsa with their performances for the Youth Conference team this year.
The Scholars impressed all coaching staff at the training ground with their attitude and playing ability and will be closely monitored for the rest of the season in training matches against the Wycombe Youth team. Gianni said "I really enjoyed the week, it was an invaluable experience making me even more determined to succeed"
The scheme has it's very own section on wwfc.com - just click here to find out all you need to know about the set up.
