A game that turned out to be a great advert for Youth Conference football unfortunately for us resulted in a Cambridge win. A draw would have been a fair result and in truth either team could have taken the 3 points, this was Wycombe's best performance to date against a very strong Cambridge team.

The first half was itself split in 2, Wycombe started the better playing some good attacking football, a new formation was working well but unfortunately we were undone on the counter attack after 25mins. This spurred Cambridge on for the final 20mins of the half but the back 4 defended extremely well and keeper Greg Irvine made a couple of tremendous saves to keep the score 1-0 at the break. Wycombe did have one great chance to equalise just before half time but Lyall Whitmarsh blazed over after being brilliantly set up by Shane Wyllie.

The 2nd half was end to end attacking play Cambridge increased their lead 2mins after the restart, disappointing as we had good procession in the right back position, the ball was lost and in our hast to win it back a penalty was conceded. We did respond very well, Gareth Aldridge was again running the show from centre midfield a position he is excelling in this season, Shane and Martin Dyer in particular were causing Cambridge all sorts of problems. Wycombe had a strong penalty claim denied on 70 mins Shane being brought down by their goal-keeper. Soon after Gianni Marrotta headed home excellently what proved to be our only goal. Wycombe then pressed and saw efforts hit the post and cleared off the line in goal mouth scrambles.

The game finished 2-1 to Cambridge but Wycombe can take heart from another good performance, a crucial week next week see's us play 2 games against Abingdon And Arseley respectively, we need to take 6 points from these game's to put us back in competition for the league title.
