WYCOMBE MSC 0-1 CAMBRIDGE UNITED
Wycombe exited the league cup at the 3rd round stage against a very strong Cambridge Utd side.
Their ability to keep the ball and move it quicker than us proved the deciding factor as to why they progressed to the quarter-finals and also why they will be strong contenders for the Midland League title.
Wycombe's strong defensive shape and organisation meant we limited them to few chances in the first half, in fact their winning goal came in the 41st minute and was actually a cross which missed everyone and went in at the far post, a disappointing goal to concede very close to the break as we should have stopped the cross. Wycombe did offer a few attacking plays in the 1st half but they were mainly on the break and only reliant on the again very impressive Shane Wyllie he to date is the only striker in the league who can score a goal on his own a great attacking threat and very unique.
The 2nd half continued much the same as the first, Wycombe battled extremely well and were trying hard to get a goal on the break through Shane and strike partner Martin Dyer but a few half chances didn't quite come off.
A special mention to our 2 centre backs Gianni Marrotta and Jack Gyamfi-Badu along with goalkeeper Greg Irvine all 3 were excellent making us very hard to score against. A note from their management and the referee at the end was that Shane Wyllie was the best striker on show although playing on the losing side, he has a great chance of going on to play a good standard of football.
