DOBSON PICKS THE POSITIVES

Posted on: Wed 07 Jul 2010
U18s boss Richard Dobson hailed his side's performance despite losing 3-1 to champions Millwall at Bisham Abbey on Saturday.

The visitors took the lead just before the break, but Wanderers rallied and both Matt McClure and Sam Belcher went close to levelling matters.

Despite spending the majority of the second period camped in their own half, Millwall went 2-0 ahead on 83 minutes when their striker found the top corner with a fantastic finish.

Substitute Rob Lofters-Desport reduced the arrears for Wycombe in injury-time from close range, however, any hopes of a fightback were dashed moments later when the Chairboys were caught on the counter-attack as they pushed for an equaliser.

"The overall performance was good," said 'Dobbo'. "We passed it well and played with energy and enthusiasm.

"It's one of those occasions in youth development where you can ignore the result and take the positives from performances of individuals and the team."

He added: "Millwall have just won the league and they have a strong setup, however, we dominated for long periods. If we play that way next season we'll win more games than we lose."

Wanderers: Ingram; Smith, Lloyd, Stewart, Kewley-Graham; Federico, Olukanmi (Ware 70), Scowen, Belcher; Weemes (Desport 65), McClure. Subs not used: Styles, Duffy.
