WANDERERS FALL TO COBBLERS

Wanderers' youth team have fallen to a 2-1 home defeat to Northampton in their latest Puma Youth Alliance fixture.

The Cobblers took the lead with just over 15 minutes left on the clock before firstly Blues substitute Matty Phillips equalised for the U18s on 78 minutes only for the visitors to snatch a winner a minute later.

Richard Dobson's side started the game very brightly and not only were they dominating possession but creating the majority of the chances.

On another day the U18s would have gone in 4-0 up at the break but instead they went in all square at 0-0 with the League One side.

The largely inexperienced Wanderers team at this age group continued to control the game after the interval but with 76 minutes on the clock the Cobblers struck on the counter attack.

Wanderers kept plugging away and were rewarded two minutes later when sub Matty Phillips popped up to score and bring the scores level.

But just as you would think the home side would go on and make the pressure tell and take the three points Northampton went straight up the other end and grabbed the winner.

U18s boss 'Dobbo' said: "On the balance of play we are really dissapointed we conceded those two goals. On another day we would have won quite comfortably but it wasn't to be."
