Wycombe Wanderers U18's finally returned to action on Saturday morning, with a 2-2 draw away to Southend United.

The Chairboys were extremely unlucky not to take all three points as they dominated for most of the 90 minutes.

After going behind to a dubious first half penalty, the Wanderers responded immediately - creating a number of chances before Craig Read finally equalised.

The Blues' youngsters impressed watching spectators with some slick football at times, and took the lead with a marvellous team move at the beginning of the second half that was finished off by Matthew Phillips.

Despite having even more opportunities to extend their lead Wycombe had to settle for a point, when a late United goal snatched away two points from the away side.

"Some of our quick interplay and one touch passing was excellent," said Manager Richard Dobson.

"Our pattern of play was really great, we want to be a passing side so we can echo what the first team do. Southend couldn't live with our quick movement and on another day we could have had five or six."

"It was hard to swallow, it was probably their only effort on goal in the entire of the second half but that's football sometimes," said Richard.
