By Dale Hurman
The under 18s continued their Puma Youth Alliance Cup campaign when they travelled to Rushden and Diamonds on Saturday 22nd September and they put in another good performance to stay top of their group.
They started well against a strong Rushden and Diamonds side who played a 3-5-2 formation.
Good pressure in the final third after three minutes resulted in the ball falling to Matt Phillips who hit a fine shot from the outside of the area beat the Rushden goalkeeper.
A positive run by George Daly after 14 minutes ended with the midfielder crossing low into box and Calum Botham made it two with a neat finish.
The home side scored against the run of play ater 36 minutes to make it 2-1 at half time.
David Reading replaced the injured Elliott Brathwaite and Chidi Ogbuagu replaced Daniel Fitchett early in the second half.
Ogbuagu made his mark on 69 minutes when he scored after a neat pass from Jamie Turley after good possessional play.
Rushden and Diamonds pulled another goal back a minute later direct from a corner but Wycombe remained resolute to hold out for the final 20 minutes to win a hard fought game.
