Norway tour

The Blues U18s have sensationally beaten Stabæk 6-3 in the last group game and have qualified for the Quarter-Finals of the Junior Elite Tournament (JET).

Adam Holloway returned in goal, with James Reading taking a place on the bench.  Elliott Brathwaite came in for David Reading and Matt Phillips started with Jordan Lumsden a substitute.

The Blues youngsters took the lead in the first minute, Scott Shulton with a tap-in from close range. In the 12th minute Shulton scored his and the Wanderers second, converting from the penalty spot after Calum Botham had been fouled.

Erik Dogger pulled a goal back for the Norwegians after 28 minutes and they equalised in the 37th minute when Omar Fonstad scored his spot kick after Brathwaite had brought down Dogger in the box.

The Blues had the perfect response and regained the lead two minutes later, Calum Botham was put through and neatly finished past Ramstad. Wycombe went in 3-2 ahead at half-time.

Within two minutes of the re-start the Wanderers were reduced to ten men when Flitchett was sent-off for two bookable offences. Captain Scott Shulton was also booked and sadly both players will miss the quarter-final.

On 49 minutes a lovely move found Turley on the right wing and his cross was finished superbly with a left-foot volley from David Pearce to put the Blues 4-2 up.

On 70 minutes the Blues scored again, George Daley's pass took him away from the defence and the young striker dummied the keeper before slotting the ball home. Stabæk were then reduced to ten men themselves when Thomas Rogne went sent off.

Mikkel Diskerud reduced the arrears when he scored direct from a free-kick after 74 minutes. It was the joy of six four minutes later when Scott Shulton completed his hat-trick, again scoring from the penalty spot. Stabæk were a big, physical side but the Blues class told in the end.

For the Blues U18 team to have beaten two under 19 sides is a magnificent achievement, especially when the opponents, like Rosenborg, are one of the biggest clubs in Norway.

Youth team boss Greg Heald paid tribute to the players: "Some of our lads are playing against players four years older but they've got old heads on their shoulders."

"They've taken on board what we have told them and have gone out there and been decisive and have made the right decisions. They have good habits and skills and that's what has got them through."

Rosenborg beat Tromsø 1-0 in the other group game and Wycombe finish top of the group.
