BEAVON PLAYS IN BEES DRAW

Posted on: Tue 17 Aug 2010
Stuart Beavon played 90 minutes on his return to action as the Blues kicked off their Totesport Combination Central Division campaign with a goalless draw at Brentford.

The striker, who was making his first appearance in the light and dark blue quarters since breaking his leg in May, was joined in the starting XI by trialist Ben Gill and summer signing Marvin McCoy.

With the strong wind in their favour, Richard Dobson's men enjoyed the better of the first half and twice went close through strikers Dan Fitchett and Matt McClure.

Brentford came back into the game after the break and Sam Saunders nearly opened the scoring when he headed Michael Chennells cross just wide on 55 minutes.

Despite the conditions now playing into the hosts' hands, Wycombe still looked a threat going forward. Firstly Beavon drilled a shot wide before Northern Ireland U19 international McClure hit the crossbar.

The Bees pushed forward late on but the Blues held firm to claim a deserved point against a Brentford side which included former Wanderer David McCracken, Michael Spillane and David Hunt.

Wanderers: Steve Arnold; Marvin McCoy, Miles Smith, Ben Gill, Sam Belcher; Jerome Federico, Stuart Green, Stuart Beavon, Ian Westlake (Nathan Olukanmi 75); Dan Fitchett Jess Kewley-Graham 70), Matt McClure.

Unused subs: Lee Weemes, Josh Scowen.
