REPORT: WESTLAKE RETURNS IN DRAW

Posted on: Thu 15 Apr 2010
Ian Westlake played an hour on his return to action as the Wanderers' reserve side drew 0-0 with Colchester United at Maidenhead FC on Tuesday evening.

Westlake played his first minutes since injurying his ankle in early December, and saw his team-mate Dan Fitchett come closest to opening the scoring in a drab first half when the striker was unable to convert a teasing Kadeem Harris cross.

Wanderers showed more purpose in the second period, with West Ham trialist Miles Smith and winger Jerome Federico - who has just been offered a professional deal - causing a constant threat for the U's.

Matt McClure and Sam Belcher, who have also been given the opportunity to turn professional, were both involved in chances for the Blues, firstly when McClure released Fitchett for a one-on-one chance before Belcher drove just wide from 25 yards.

Kadeem Harris saw a late chance from the edge of the box fly just past the post and although the game finished goalless, coach Richard Dobson was pleased with his side's improved performance after the interval:

"We took more control in the second half and were more pro-active, which was pleasing on a difficult pitch," he said.
