FEDERICO STRIKE SECURES VICTORY

Posted on: Thu 25 Feb 2010
Youngster Jerome Federico scored a last-gasp winner as the Wanderers' reserve side beat Ipswich Town 2-1 in Suffolk.

Centre-back Luke Oliver put the Blues ahead midway through the first half before Ed Upson levelled for the hosts.

But with the last kick of the game, Federico popped up to net the winner and extend the Blues' unbeaten start to the season.

Boss Richard Dobson included ex-Ipswich man Matt Bloomfield, Adam Hinshelwood and Stuart Beavon in the starting line-up for the clash at the Tractor Boys' training ground.

Bloomfield and Hinshelwood were both named on the bench for Tuesday's draw with Southampton but this offered them their first taste of action after recovering from knee injuries.

The Wanderers began the stronger of the two teams and their pressure told when Oliver rose highest to head home a deflected Lewwis Spence corner.

Ipswich battled back and they were rewarded with an equaliser when Upson drilled a sweetly struck left-footed effort into the bottom corner from just inside the 18-yard box.

Both sides had chances to win it in the second half, most notably when Stuart Beavon went through one-on-one with Richard Wright.

Wright came out on top on that occasion but he couldn't do anything with Federico's stunning strike deep into injury-time. The tricky winger cut in from the right-hand side before sending an unstoppable effort into the top corner from 20 yards.

Wanderers:
Brennan, Cobb (Belcher), Oliver, Hinshelwood, Spence, Montrose, Phillips, Bloomfield, Green, Harris (Federico), Beavon. Unused subs: Saku, Stewart, O'Regan.
