A late Edward Adjei strike denied the Wanderers their first win of the season against Peterborough United at York Road.

Chris Westwood's own goal handed the visitors the advantage but goals from a trialist and Ashley Chambers put the Blues 2-1 ahead.

However, Adjei popped up with six minutes remaining to secure a share of the spoils for Posh.

Peterborough winger Dominic Green forced the first opening of the match on seven minutes when he stung the palms of Jamie Young after a nice jinking run down the right.

Wanderers responded well to the visitors' early dominance and Ashley Chambers recorded the Blues' first chance of the game on 13 minutes. The Leicester City loanee latched onto a nice through ball by Joe Cobb, but after shifting the ball onto his left foot he couldn't get any power on his shot and the ball rolled through to Sam Cole.

Chris Westwood continued to impress at the heart of the defence but there was nothing he could do with Shaun Batt's teasing cross which brought about the opening goal on 32 minutes. Batt beat Cobb down the right, fired the ball across Youngy's six-yard box and, under pressure from Edward Adjei, Westwood could only help the ball over the line to hand Posh the advantage.

The lead didn't last long though and within four minutes Junior Lewis' men were level thanks to a goal from a trialist. Westwood made up for his earlier own goal with a good header back across the box from a Dean Wallace corner and there was the Wanderers' no.10 to volley home from close range.

Wanderers started the second half with a good tempo to their play and on 49 minutes Ashley Chambers went within an inch of handing the hosts the lead after good work by Sam Belcher and Dan Fitchett.

The impressive Chambers was to get his name on the scoresheet four minutes later though and it came in spectacular fashion. The 19-year-old cut in from the left touchline, leaving two Posh defenders in his wake, and then firing a stunning shot past Cole from 18 yards.

Whilst his side had relative control of the second period, Lewis introduced youngsters Matt McClure and Kadeem Harris to proceedings in the final 20 minutes.

But it was the tenacity in midfield of fellow youth team players Sam Belcher, Dean Wallace and Tom O'Regan that continued to catch the eye as the Blues pushed forward for a third goal.

However, Posh forward Shaun Batt was continuing to cause the Wanderers defence problems with his pace and it needed a good block from Leon Johnson to deflect his 20-yard drive over the bar on 80 minutes.

Moments later, McClure was handed the opportunity to wrap up the Blues' first three points of the season but after a perfectly waited pass from Belcher his touch let him down and the flowing move came to an end.

And that missed opportunity proved to be costly for the Blues as Edward Adjei fired home from close range on 84 minutes to claim a share of the spoils.
