U'S SHOCK RESSIES

Posted on: Wed 29 Apr 2009

Wycombe Wanderers reserves fell to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Colchester United on Tuesday afternoon, as the Chairboys fielded an experienced side in search of fitness in the last Totesport Combination game of the season.

A brace from Magno Vieira was insufficient to earn a victory over the Blues' traditional rivals, as the U's derailed their title challenge.

'Mags' opened the scoring early on in fantastic fashion, chasing down a James Reading free-kick in the opening minute before smashing home a spectacular effort from the edge of the area.

Anthony Wordsworth and the experienced Scott Vernon both headed home before the half was up to swing the lead in favour of Colchester, whilst at the other end Callum Botham missed a massive chance to level just before the half hour mark.

The Blues were to be punished as the home side extended their lead, with Tom Bender taking advantage of some hesitant set piece defending from the Wanderers to fire home the third.

Vieira tapped home in simple fashion was up to give the Wanderers some hope, but the second period saw United seal the game in controversial fashion, as Anthony Wordsorth bent home a free-kick as young Chairboys keeper Reading was still lining up his wall - earning his second of the game and all three points for United.
