SECOND STRING HOLD BORO
By Ross Jeavons
Junior Lewis' reserve side battled to a 1-1 draw with Stevenage Borough on Tuesday evening, as Dan Fitchett's second half strike was cancelled out by a late James Parkes header.
It was a game largely devoid of chances, as both teams struggled to carve out any real openings at a chilly Oak Tree Road.
Dan Fitchett saw two efforts well kept out by Boro keeper Jordan Gibson in the first period, before eventually bagging a deserved goal - tapping home after superb wing play from Callum Botham on the left hand side.
It looked as though a very youthful Wycombe XI would hold on for all there points, but the table toppers came unstuck with ten minutes remaining as Parkes headed home unmarked from a corner.
The next reserve game is at home to Watford on Wednesday April 1st - with a 7pm kick off.
FULL TIME
88 mins: A weak header comes in from the Stevenage number 12, easily held by Jones.
86 mins: A draw is about right for this game, which hasn't boasted too many chances for either side. A couple of lovely touches there from Jordan Lumsden, but his shot is blocked well by the Stevenage backline.
84 mins: Tom O'Regan has replaced Nathan Ashton.
83 mins: Great work by Jones, who has been solid for the Wanderers all night. A rising shot comes in froms all of thirty yards, but the ex-Rushden keeper' saves well and holds the ball after landing.
80 mins: Nathan Ashton whips in a corner from the left hand side, Shulton arrives late on the edge of the box but smashes it way over the bar with a first time shot.
78 mins: GOAL! The Boro equalise from the resulting corner, the Blues defence is all at sea as the ball is whipped in and centre back James Parkes rises unmarked to head home.
77 mins: That's Stevenage's brightest moment. Anderson jinks into the box before sending a shot crashing to Jones' right, the the Wanderers stopper gets down really well to tip wide.
74 mins: Good play by Shulton to bring the ball down with his chest on the half way line and chip down the wing to Botham, but the winger is flagged offside.
71 mins: Ochoa is a youth team central midfielder, signed from Brentford. A couple of the Stevenage players are cramping up, which is holding up play.
68 mins: Change for Wycombe, Lewis Ochoa replaces Lewwis Spence. Not a typo, Mr Spence just likes to spell it that way... Ochoa is a
65 mins: Junior Lewis and Richard Dobson are in consultation on the touchline, we could be seeing a change soon.
63 mins: Botham hadn't had much chance to assert his authority on the game, but did well to grab that assist. Fair play to 'Fitch' for getting into a goal-poachers position.
61 mins: GOAL! Great play by the Wanderers to take the lead. Callum botham shows great strength and skill to get to the byline before sending in a undefendable ball to the goalmouth, where Dan Fitchett taps home.
58 mins: Anderson (no, not that one) sends a teasing ball into the six yard box, but Blues goalie Jones falls on it well.
56 mins. Stevenage's Rob Eagles gets into the area on the left hand side, but sees his effort well blocked by the back-tracking Saku.
53 mins: Unlucky Nathan Ashton. The ex-Fulham winger dribbles for 30 yards, showing great strength to hold off his marker as he enters the box, but stumbles before his shot and slices over the bar.
51 mins: It has been a bright start from the Chairboys. Jordan Lumsden swings in a cross from deep that Callum "Tubes" Botham heads just wide.
49 mins: The ball is in the net but it wont count. Jerome Anderson, who has featured in the Boro first team, sprints into the left hand side of the area before sliding home, but is denied by the assistant's flag.
47 mins: Good play. Jorden Lumsden dashes to the edge of the box before sliding in Fitchett, the young forward is pushed wide but still manages to get a stinging effort on target that is just held by the keeper.
46 mins: Back underway here, as the Blues kick from left to right as we look from the main stand. Stand in right back Scott Shulton is tonight's captain.
HALF TIME
45 mins: The Boro push forward in the final stages of the half but are denied again, with youth team centre back Craig Read heading away convincingly.
42 mins: The Chairboys have some promising young names on the bench, including Republic of Ireland Youth International Tom O'Regan who could well feature in the second half.
39 mins: A lovely dummy by Jordan Lumsden on the edge of the box releases Dan Fitchett. He's one on one with the keeper but delays his shot a second too long, allowing the Stevenage keeper to smother the ball. Best chance of the game that one.
36 mins: The play is stopped as a Stevenage player goes down in the middle of the park. It looks for a moment like there is going to be a change, but eventually he picks himself up and play continues.
33 mins: Magno Vieira has looked sharp, with a couple of nice touches on the edge of the area almost releasing Fitchett.
31 mins: Chris Casement and TJ Moncur have just taken their seats, nice to see the boys supporting their fellow team-mates.
28 mins: Now it's the Chairboys' turn to try out a set piece routine with a Nathan Ashton corner kick. 'Nath' whips in a left footed inswinger but it's well claimed by Gibson. Ashton's left foot is causing trouble at times.
24 mins: Two corners in quick succession for Stevenage. They eventually clear their lines after allowing the ball to bounce dangerously in the box.
21 mins: The Wanderers are playing some lovely football going forward but can't quite find the killer ball.
19 mins: That effort from Fitchett has been the only real bright spark in what has been a drab affair. The visitors are struggling to break down a well organised working Wycombe outfit.
16 mins: First corner of the game and it's gone to the away side. A right footed outswinger is whipped in but defended really well by the Wanderers.
13 mins: That was a bit Benny Hill. Magno Vieira works the ball to Dan Fitchett just inside the area, the young striker hits it low for what should have been a comfy save for Boro keeper Jordan Gibson. However the goalie lets it slip under him and before it rolls over the line a defender is back to slice it away, off the back of the keeper and inches wide of the post. Got that? Clear as mud.
11 mins: Boro have had a quiet opening to the game, with Ashley Jones punching away well from their only set piece.
9 mins: Free kick to the Wanderers outside the box, but Ashton drags it over the bar.
6 mins: The Blues work the ball well to young midfielder Jordan Lumsden, who blasts over the bar from 25 yards.
5 mins: The Boro look to be staring with three at the back, with wing backs supporting the midfield.
3 mins: Quiet opening. Lewwis Spence hoofed a high one over the top, but the pacey Dan Fitchett looks to be up against a quick centre half in James Hammond. Should be a good battle.
1 mins: There's a decisive chill over Oak Tree Road tonight, lets hope the footy will warm us up. Any questions just give us a shout on media@wwfc.com. First teamers Magno Vieira, Lewwis Spence and Nathan Ashton are all in action. Stevenage also appear to have fielded a young XI.
