BLUES DERAIL ORIENT EXPRESS

Posted on: Tue 04 Nov 2008
Ben Campbell reporting from the Matchroom Stadium

Full-time here at the Matchroom Stadium and the Blues have racked up their third straight win in a row courtesy of a 2-1 win over Leyton Orient. Junior Lewis' side went behind early on after Simon Dawkins scored for the home side but goals from Magno Silva Vieira and captain Robbie Rice ensured the Blues travel back to Buckinghamshire with three well deserved points. Another very good display from the Wanderers second string.

90th min -
Nice line ball from Shulton to find Matt Richards although the ball was lost too cheaply when it came back to 'Jaffa'.

89th min - It looks as if Calum Botham and Dan Fitchett are going to get late cameo's for the Blues.

87th min - Orient are applying a little more pressure now as the game draws to a close but we're holding strong.

86th min - Comfy save for Youngy as he dives to his left to claim Harry Baker's free-kick.

85th min - Although I questioned Derek Duncan playing at centre-back he has slotted in their quite well. Mr. Versatile, Robbie Rice, has filled in for Del at left-back and as usual has done a good job.

82nd min - Despite saying that the O's are continuing to the put the Wanderers defence under pressure when they can and only a clearance from Del Duncan meant the didn't fall to the back post where two Orient men were waiting.

81st min - We're entering the final 10 minutes now and the anything other than a third straight win for the Blues will be unjust. They have dominated this game and should be 3-1 or 4-1 up.

78th min - Lovely ball round the corner from Lewwis Spence set Nathan Ashton free but as his team mates filled the box the former Fulham man was caught in possession and the chance had gone.

77th min - At the other end Lewwis Spence has gone closer for the Blues from the same distance as Argent but his low and hard drilled shot was watched past the post by Jones.

75th min - Good effort from the O's sub Jake Argent but it was never troubling Youngy in the Wanderers goal.

74th min - Good punch from Jamie Young to deny Simon Dawkins a header on goal. Strong tackle from Scott Shulton to win the ball off Jake Argent.

72nd min - Great leap from Matt Richards to win the ball from his opposite number, Matthew Hall. Richards has played well, as all the Blues team have, since the first 15 minutes.

69th min - First effort of the half for Orient and it has been wasted by their skipper Aiden Palmer, he surged forward but as soon as the ball came off his foot it was only going one place and that was the stands.

67th min - The game has opened up with both teams looking for more goals. At the moment the Blues still lead 2-1 and are looking the most likely to score again.

65th min - Matt Richards' 30-yard run deserved better than what he just gave after he headed over from a Ashton cross.

64th min - Great tackle from Christon, who is now playing right-back after Scott Shulton has come onto replace Lewis Hunt. The new centre-back pairing is the Leon Crooks and Derek Duncan of all people!

62nd min - Jake Hyde deserves a goal, his work rate has been great and he has tested the keeper with every opportunity he has had. That time it was a strong left arm of Jones to keep him out.

60th min - Nathan Ashton has just seen his and the Blues' latest chance go begging as he curled over from 15-yards.

58th min - Towering header from the ever-improving Lewis Christon, granted he did start the game slow but he is looking a lot more assured and has nulified the Orient threat going forward along with the rest of the Blues defence.

56th min - Magno has just missed a sitter. The corner was whipped in from the left by Spence but the Brazilian lifted the ball over from inside the 6-yard box.

55th min - A ricochet in the Orient area nearly led to a third for the Blues, but luckily for the O's defender Ajet Shehu the ball went past the post and out for a corner.

52nd min - Hyde, Magno and the rest of the forward players for the Blues are looking so dangerous when they go forward.

51st min - Superb play from Nathan Ashton down the left, he beat his man, whipped in a teasing cross and Magno was within inches of making it 3-1.

49th min - Matt Richards has just flashed a shot across the Orient box but no-one was there to divert goalwards.

46th min - GOAL! Orient 1-2 Blues - Robbie Rice has given the Blues the lead after poking the ball home from 2 yards out. Ashton did well down the left, pulled the back for Hyde, who fired the ball goalwards but after Jones had initially saved Ricey was on hand to make it 2-1 us.

46th min -
We're off and the Blues have started the 2nd half.

Half-time here at the Matchroom Stadium and it's 1-1 between the Blues and Leyton Orient. It's been a very interesting game to watch, the O's took the lead on four minutes through on-loan Spurs striker Simon Dawkins but Magno Silva Vieira scored for the third reserve game running to draw the Blues level on 27 minutes.

44th min -
Jake Hyde has just gone very close to making it 2-1 to the Wanderers. Good work down the right from Ricey and Magno set up the striker but the forward on trial from Swindon dragged his shot just wide off the target.

41st min - We're going again and the game re-started with a good interception from Lewwis Spence in the Blues midfield.

39th min - There's a stoppage in play as Leon Crooks receives some treatment from Shay Connolly.

38th min - Orient haven't threatened since the opening 15 minutes really and at the moment the game is in the Blues' hands.

36th min - Good defensive work from Leon Crooks to firstly nip across in front of his marker and then secondly show a piece of trickery to leave Orient's goalscorer, Simon Dawkins for dead.

34th min - Baker has drawn another free-kick from the Blues defence, but from the resulting set piece Jamie Young comfortably catches the inswinging cross.

32nd min - It's been an enthralling opening 32 minutes and there's plenty more goals in this one.

31st min - Great knock down by Jake Hyde to bring his striker partner into the game, but Magno couldn't direct the half-volley on target. Good link-up play though.

29th min - The Blues are going in search of the lead and this time the move was started by Matt Richards.

27th min - GOAL! Orient 1-1 Blues - Magno Vieira has levelled for Wanderers after tapping in Jamie Jones' save . The corner was intially met by Jake Hyde and the striker did well too head the ball down and Magno picked up the pieces.

26th min -
The Blues are now controlling possession and have options everytime they go forward. However, on that occasion it broke down to a slightly overhit pass.

24th min - Junior Lewis' side were through again but this time the assistant referees flag halted another flowing move.

22nd min - Great forward play from the Wanderers and it deserved a goal. Neat interchange between Magno and Nathan Ashton set the winger free but Jones was there again to save from 18-yards. Jones' hands have been warmed again after Ricey got in front of his marker to head towards goal.

20th min - Two chances in a minute for the Blues, however this time it fell to Magno. The Brazilian striker set himself well and struck the ball sweetly but Jones got down smartly to his right to save.

19th min - First effort of any note for the Blues and it fell to the left-foot of Lewwis Spence, the midfielder tried to bend his shot in but not enough curl and Jones watched it past the post.

17th min - Del has just chopped down Baker on the right-hand side and luckily the free-kick, which was dangerously positioned, was wasted.

15th min - Dawkins is at it again for the O's but this time it was the skipper Robbie Rice who put his body on the line to stop the on-loan Spurs man.

14th min - Great challenge from Derek Duncan to stop Harry Baker in his tracks. The Blues are settled but haven't threatened as yet.

12th min - Good defending from Lewis Hunt to clear any potential danger. He's look quite assured in his first minutes of the season.

11th min - Wayward shot from the Orient midfielder Matthew Hall as he tried to catch Jamie Young off his line.

10th min - Superb long ball from the left-back Derek Duncan but the bounce beat both Luke Ashworth and Magno Silva Vieira and ran through to the O's keeper.

9th min - Wycombe are looking for a quick response to going behind and Lewwis Spence is leading the offensive.

7th min - Dawkins is causing the Blues defence some problems and only Youngy in the Wanderers goal has kept it to 1-0. The powerful striker beat Christon for pace and skill but as he tried to go round the Aussie keeper he snatched the ball away from him. Good keeping.

5th min - Good save from Jamie Young to deny Harry Baker after he had turned Derek Duncan inside and out. It's been a lively start to the game and long may it continue.

4th min - Orient 1-0 Blues - Simon Dawkins has given the home side the lead at the second attempt after seeing his intial effort saved by Jamie Young. Decent finish from the striker who is on loan from Spurs.

3rd min -
Bright start from Nathan Ashton as he darted past his marker on the left-hand side, his cross was good but Jamie Jones in the O's goal did well to claim.

2nd min - The Blues have lined up: Young, Hunt, Crooks, Christon, Duncan, Rice (c), Spence, Richards, Ashton, Magno and Jake Hyde.

1st min - We're off and the O's have kicked-off. Early chance for Orient but Jamie Young did well to push the ball around the post from Ajet Shehu's shot.

It's a rather surreal view from the Orient press area, I feel like I am up in the sky but I am close enough to bring you all the action from this afternoon's game.
