Wanderers' reserve side have extended their unbeaten run to six games following their 1-0 win over top of the table team Charlton Athletic at Ebbsfleet United.

Dan Fitchett grabbed the only goal of the game just before the 20 minute mark although it could have been so much more after Charlton's right back Yassin Moutaouakil was shown his marching orders for punching Derek Duncan with over half an hour to play.

Wanderers started the game very brightly and could have been ahead as early as the 6th minute but after a scramble in the Charlton area Tom Cadmore fired over from 10 yards.

The Blues continued to play the better football out of the two teams and Steven Gregory was the next to try and open the scoring although his headed straight at Harry Lee a couple of minutes later.

Wanderers were dominating possession and were making top of the table Charlton look very ordinary. You may have thought that the injury to Robbie Rice would have disrupted the flow but Scott Shulton slotted straight into the midfield and within two minutes the Blues had the lead.

Dan Fitchett latched onto a great ball through from Alan Massey and poked the ball under the advancing Lee to make it four goals in five games just before the 20 minute mark. A deserved lead for Wanderers.

Going behind had seemed to have angered Addicks left back Kelly Youga after he went in high on Jamie Turley - a tackle which subsequently angered on looking Blues boss Paul Lambert.

Within five minutes of the opening goal Wanderers could have doubled their lead. Alan Massey found himself in space on the edge of the area he let fly but the defenders shot cannoned back onto the post.

Spurred on by a fantastic Steven Gregory in the centre of the midfield Wanderers looked the most likely to get the next goal and Charlton only created one chance of any note in the first half through Dean Sinclair on 31 minutes when after bustling his way through he shot into the side netting.

The next time the Blues went forward they had the ball in the net although Tom Cadmore's header was ruled out because of a foul on the keeper.

Charlton started the second half with some urgency but as in the first half it was Wanderers who looked the most likely to score and they nearly did firstly through Derek Duncan and then Dan Fitchett - but both shots were blocked.

The home side then showed why they are top of the league with a swift move which opened the Blues defence up luckily Blues stopper Jamie Young alert and on hand to parry Luke Varney's shot away.

Then a moment of madness from Charlton's right back Yassin Moutaouakil gave Wanderers a numerical advantage. After winning the free-kick from a challenge from Wanderers' left midfielder Derek Duncan the Addick defender threw a punch and was subsequently sent off.

The game then began to get very stretched as both teams looked for goals for different reasons. Wanderers were looking to put the game to bed where as the Addicks needed a goal to pull the game level. It was Charlton who went closest next though as Luke Varney's shot was deflected just over Jamie Young's crossbar.

With just under 15 minutes left Wanderers tried to freshen things up with the double substitution of Chidi Ogbuagu and George Daly replacing Dan Fitchett and Derek Duncan.

Despite Wanderers' fresh legs Charlton should have drawn level with 10 minutes to go but after a sweeping move Luke Varney fired over from 15 yards.

The game ebbed and flowed In the closing stages with both teams pushing on to get a goal and the next to go close was Wanderers through George Daly on 88 minutes although he failed to fully connect with Matty Phillips' cross.

Wanderers saw out the final few minutes with relative ease ensuring the three points went back to Buckinghamshire as well as moving the side up to 7th in the table.
