Wanderers' reserve side have extended their unbeaten run to five games following their goalless draw at home to Aldershot Town.

If anyone deserved the three points it was the Blues but they weren't able to turn their dominance into a goal in their latest Pontins Holiday Combination fixture.

Wanderers started very brightly and could have taken the lead in the opening minute but the ball just eluded George Daly at the back post after Calum Botham swung in a lovely cross from the left.

Centre midfielder Steven Gregory was the next to go close for Wanderers as they turned up the heat on Aldershot. He rose well to meet a corner although his header went narrowly over the top.

For all of the home side's early possession they could have found themselves behind just before the ten minute mark and luckily Aussie keeper Jamie Young was on hand to clear any danger after the ball was played through on goal.

The best chance of the half fell to Dan Fitchett on 16 minutes from a Matty Phillips corner. The striker found himself in a tiny bit of space but he wasn't able to convert his effort after turning well in the 18-yard box.

The Blues continued to pepper the Shots goal and the latest chance fell to George Daly but his 20-yard shot was blocked.

Despite Aldershot being under pressure they were defending very well, blocking countless efforts including a Matty Phillips shot on 32 minutes after a lovely passing interchange between Daly and Robbie Rice.

The second half started as the first ended with Wanderers trying to find that elusive opening goal. Skipper Will Antwi was the next to test Aldershot keeper Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz with a header but even if the ball had nestled in the Shots net it wouldn't have counted as the flag was up.

To try and freshen things up Chidi Ogbuagu, Darrell Ellams and Scott Shulton were all thrown on in the second half but it was the Shots who nearly took the lead with a free-kick from Ryan Williams. The Shots captain swung in the cross from the right but just as the ball headed for the top corner Jamie Young was on hand to tip the ball over the top and keep the scores at 0-0.

Down the other end Matty Phillips went close for the Blues after letting fly from 20 yards, and Phillips was also involved in Wanderers' next move as Calum Botham ran onto a neat flick from Dan Fitchett although the attack came to an end after the left midfielder was crowded out.

And as the clock ticked into injury-time Wanderers should have won the game. An in swinging corner from the left was met by well by Tom Cadmore but his header went inches wide of the right-hand post.
