Dan Fitchett rescued a point for Wanderers' reserve side in the final minute to deny Leyton Orient the win at Adams Park.

The youngster scored just as the clock ticked into injury time to cancel out Efe Echanomi's opener just after the hour mark.

Wanderers started the better in the Pontins Holiday Combination fixture and the first real chance for the Blues should have led to the first goal, but after being put through on goal George Daly dragged his shot wide on 16 minutes.

Captain Robbie Rice could have easily opened the scoring within the next five minutes but on both occasions he fired straight at Stuart Nelson.

Wanderers continued to play the better football but were nearly caught just after the half hour mark when Andre Boucaud lost possession 25 yards from goal. Luckily for Boucaud and the Blues Jamie Young was alive and was off his line quickly to clear the danger.

Just as the half drew to a close the O's could and probably should have been ahead. Loick Pires and Jabo Ibehre combined well down the left, the latter supplied the cross into the box but luckily for the Blues it was just out of reach for strike partner Efe Echanomi.

Lewis Christon, who has recently been out on loan at Woking, put in a massive performance and was on hand to deny Orient going ahead after Ibehre looked as if he was going to be through one on one.

Christon couldn't do anything about the next chance created by the O's, but it was another Wanderer who kept the scoreline to 0-0. Jamie Young came racing out of his goal to close the angle and push away Jabo Ibehre's audacious lob.

Orient piled on the pressure and Wanderers fell behind on 64 minutes when a long ball beat the Blues defence, Efe Echanomi headed the ball down into his stride and coolly slotted the ball under Aussie Jamie Young.

Calum Botham was introduced in place of George Daly to try and add some impetus and he made an immediate impact with a searching ball to Derek Duncan, but after cutting inside Duncan's cross was deflected into Nelson's hands.

Then a piece of excellent defending kept Wanderers in it. After a scramble in the box the ball fell to Echanomi inside the 18-yard box, he let fly but Tom Cadmore was on the line to head clear.

Wanderers made another sub and this time it was Scott Shulton for Steven Gregory. The youngster improved the game immediately and later played a critical role in the equaliser.

However, it was Wanderers' first sub Matty Phillips who nearly turned provider for Calum Botham with only four minutes left. The right sided midfielder turned, supplied a teasing cross but Botham's powerful header was tipped round the post by Nelson.

But just as the game drew to an end Wanderers scored. Scott Shulton surged forward from centre midfield played a precise ball through to Dan Fitchett who finished well from 15 yards passed the O's keeper.

The reserves are next in action on Wednesday March 26th against Brighton & Hove Albion at Bognor Regis Town.
