BLUES THROUGH TO B&B FINAL
By Ben Campbell
Wanderers are through to the Berks and Bucks final following a 3-0 win over MK Dons at Stadium MK.
The Blues dominated throughout the 90 minutes and progressed to the final of a competition they have won 26 times thanks to a first half George Daly header and two late strikes from firstly Dan Fitchett and then Matty Phillips.
The first half produced a number of chances and George Daly could have given Wanderers the lead as early as 20 seconds in, but after latching onto the through ball he shot straight at Kurt Fox.
The majority of chances fell to the Blues in the first half, with the only shot Jamie Young having to save, a Daniel Powell effort on 27 minutes.
Half chances came and went for Wanderers with a handful falling to midfielder Steven Gregory.
But a golden opportunity was round the corner. When after doing well down the right Matty Phillips played in George Daly, his miss kick played in Derek Duncan at the back stick, but from 3 yards he couldn't convert.
Wanderers didn't have to wait long for the lead though as George Daly nodded home after Scott Shulton's original effort cannoned back off the crossbar a minute before the break.
The second half was even more one sided than the first and Wanderers could have doubled their lead on 46 minutes, but Steven Gregory dragged his shot wide from the edge of the area.
The likes of Gregory, Shulton and Phillips were running rings round the Dons midfield in a half that Jamie Young didn't have to make a save.
Wanderers created a number of openings throughout the second period but for all their dominance the Blues didn't really go close to increasing their lead until the 73rd minute.
And it was Scott Shulton with the effort but his shot went narrowly over the bar after having the ball rolled to him by Alan Massey from a free-kick.
The Blues continued to pepper the Dons goal and the game was put to bed in the 87th minute when Dan Fitchett finished from close range after receiving the ball from Scott Shulton on the right-hand side.
And Matty Phillips, who celebrates his 17th birthday on Thursday, capped off a great night for the Blues moments later after finishing well from 20 yards.
Wanderers will face Chesham United in the B&B final at Adams Park on Monday May 5th.
