CHIDI DOUBLE DOWNS HORNETS
By Ben Campbell
Wanderers have got their revenge on Watford after beating the Championship side 2-1 at Boreham Wood FC.
A Chidi Ogbuagu double was enough to see off Watford who rarely threatened the Blues goal throughout the 90 minutes.
The game started slowly and the first chance produced the first goal. The Wanderers youngster opened the scoring on 15 minutes when he finished from close range following a cross from Calum Botham.
Few opportunities were created by either side in the 1st half, despite the Blues dominating the possession. However Wanderers should have gone in at the interval 2-0 up, and only a last ditch intervention from Jordan Parkes stopped that as the impressive Matty Phillips waited to head home.
But instead of 2-0 up, Wanderers found themselves going in at 1-1. Billy Gibson capitalised on a slip from Tom Cadmore to sneak into the penalty area and then finish well past Jamie Young.
The Blues didn't have to wait long to regain the lead though, 60 seconds in fact, and it was a second for Ogbuagu and a second close range finish for the striker but this time the supply was from the right.
Ian Culverhouse made two subs at half-time bringing on Jamie Turley and David Pearce for Mike Williamson and Andre Boucaud. This allowed Tom Cadmore to slot into a more comfortable role at centre half alongside Lewis Christon.
Wanderers looked dangerous going forward but didn't create many chances of note, with substitute George Daly's 25-yard effort five minutes from time the closest either side came to adding to the scoreline.
Watford did offer some pressure in the 2nd half but the Blues defence held strong as they had the whole game.
Another encouraging performance from the team. That was their second win in three games and made sure they made up for the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Watford back in September at Adams Park.
