RESERVES DEFEAT SEAGULLS
By Ben Campbell
Wanderers' reserves side have recorded their second win of the season, following a 1-0 home win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Pontins Holiday Combination.
Daniel Fitchett grabbed the only goal of the game in the 47th minute when he finished well after being put through by Andre Boucaud.
Wanderers controlled the game throughout and should have made their dominance count especially in the 2nd half, but a combination of great goalkeeping and some rushed finishing meant the game ended 1-0.
Brighton had looked lively early on but as the game progressed the Blues began to show some real quality, especially on the left-hand side through Chris Palmer and Calum Botham.
But despite their vast possession Wanderers only managed to conjure up a few chances in the 1st half, most notably a left-foot drive from Botham and a header from George Daly - which went over the bar.
Brighton didn't really threaten Jamie Young and his defence, which included a very steady Mike Williamson, but out of nothing they could have taken the lead on 28 minutes but David Martot's cheeky 35-yard lob went narrowly wide.
In the 2nd half Wycombe really stamped their authority on the game and they were rewarded two minutes after the restart when Fitchett stole in to coolly slot his strike under John Sullivan to give the Blues the lead.
The home side put on a really good show in the 2nd half for the Adams Park fans and Chidi Ogbuagu was a real handful for the Brighton defence after he replaced George Daly 10 minutes into the half.
The impressive Chris Palmer nearly gave Wanderers some breathing space just minutes after the opener but his ferocious 25-yard strike cannoned back off the post.
Then that man Ogbuagu was causing problems again, but this time it led to a red card for Kerry Mayo for a professional foul after he was adjudged to have hauled back Chidi as he was bearing down on goal.
That certainly didn't help the visitors cause as they then had to ride their luck to keep the scoreline to 1-0. Matty Phillips and Calum Botham both had chances to increase the home side's lead, but right at the death Brighton could have snatched a point.
Joe Gatting found himself unmarked 15 yards from goal, but after letting fly Jamie Young's hand tipped the powerful shot onto the bar and therefore preserving the 1-0 lead and effectively making the game safe.
