A promising young midfielder, Lewis became former manager Peter Taylor's first signing of the summer ahead of the 2009-10 campaign.
Montrose began his career at Wigan Athletic, though injury restricted his first team appearances at the then known JJB Stadium.
Loan spells at Cheltenham Town and Chesterfield proved a valuable opportunity for the Manchester native to prove his worth, including an impressive performance against the Chairboys in the 1-1 draw at Adams Park in March 2009.
He arrived at Wanderers boasting glowing plaudits from numerous coaches at the Latics and got an early run in the side courtesy of some injuries to key players.
Montrose struggled to hold down a first team place for the majority of the 2009-10 season, but was given a new lease of life under Gary Waddock in the Wanderers midfield at the tail end of last season.
