Wonder goals from Matty Phillips and Jon Paul Pittman earned the Wanderers their first three points of the season at Adams Park, as Peter Taylor's men overcame a one goal deficit to defeat Bristol Rovers.

Chris Lines poked home from close range to open the scoring for the Gas, but Phillips evened things up fifteen minutes later with a dazzling run topped off with a long-range screamer.

At one stage it seemed that the Chairboys would be forced to settle for a point despite intense pressure, but Stuart Beavon's delightful build up play was spectacularly finished off by Pittman to bring the smiles back to the Chairboys faithful.

If confidence was low in the Wycombe camp then it certainly wasn't showing on a glorious afternoon in Buckinghamshire, as the home side started brightly against an in form Pirates outfit.

Ian Westlake latched onto Matt Harrold's knock down to draw a save from Rhys Evans after nine minutes, whilst Matt Phillips sent a duo of efforts narrowly wide of the Rovers goal.

However that early domination only served to add to the shock and disappointment as Paul Trollope's men opened the scoring.

Stuart Campbell's corner kick was headed down by Danny Coles , allowing Lines to turn the ball home from close range.

With the Blues without a win in their opening four league games fans could have been forgiven for fearing the worse, but the Wanderers' very own young sensation had something special in his locker to level proceedings.

The Aylesbury born midfielder received a neat flick from John Mousinho on the left wing before driving towards goal and slamming an unstoppable 20-yard effort past Evans.

That set the Blues up perfectly for a second half assault on the Bristol goal, as they came out for the break with their tails up.

An inspired double substitution from Peter Taylor would prove to be the turning point, as ever reliable catylists Stuart Beavon and JP Pittman entered the fray on the hour mark.

Luke Oliver headed wide from all of 6 yards after 65 minutes but was greatly hindered by an apparent trip from a Jeff Hughes. Had the towering centre half made more of the challenge it could well have been a strong penalty shout, but referee Mr Gibbs elected only to give a goal kick.

From that point onwards the Chairboys looked the team more likely to find the back of the net, though struggled to take advantage of long periods of dominance. Hughes did send a brief wave of panic through the home support as his free-kick whipped inches wide of Shearer's post, but the game's defining moment was still to come.

The assist was every bit as magical as the finish, as Stuart Beavon plucked the ball out of the sky with majestic artistry before sending a wonderful reverse pass into the path of Pittman.

The former Crawley man had the odds stacked against him as he spun his marker on the edge of the area, but somehow managed to crash an almighty effort into the top left corner of the goal.

It was Pittman's second goal in the space of a week, confirming that the clinical front man is having no problems adjusting to League One football.

There was still drama to come in an enthralling encounter down in HP12, as Phillips denied David Pipe at the far post with a brave diving block, but overall it was a deserved three points for the Blues, who can now go into the Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie with Northampton on Tuesday evening with renewed vigour.
