Wanderers picked up their first win under manager Peter Taylor on Saturday as goals from John Mousinho and Scott McGleish were enough to hand the Blues a 2-0 at Chester City.

The visitors' clinical finishing proved decisive against Simon Davies' men as summer signing Mousinho bagged his first goal for the club in style on 26 minutes, latching on to a long ball from Craig Woodman before expertly lobbing keeper John Danby from outside the area, while Chris Zebroski and Tommy Doherty had opportunities to double the score before the break.

Chester's best chance of the game came during their strongest spell in the match at the start of the second period, but Ryan Lowe's effort was saved by the legs of Scott Shearer after the striker was put through by Kevin Ellison, and the miss proved to be costly as McGleish bagged his 200th career goal from the penalty spot.

The lively Zebroski was adjudged to have been brought down by Seals defender Laurence Wilson inside the area and last season's top goalscorer made no mistake from the spot before he and Zebroski missed chances to inflict further misery on the Cheshire club.

Taylor made three changes to the side that lost 4-0 to Birmingham in midweek with Scott Shearer taking his place in goal ahead of Jamie Young, while David McCracken regained the captain's armband as he replaced Leon Crooks at right-back and Mike Williamson stepped in for the injured Will Antwi in the middle of defence.

There were two changes in the Seals team following their 5-2 defeat at the hands of Leeds United as manager Simon Davies dropped experienced centre half Paul Butler and lively winger Richie Partridge in favour of Shaun Kelly and Jay Harris.

And it was the home side who were handed the firsty opportunity of the game on two minutes when two of the more experienced members of a largely youthful squad - Ryan Lowe and Kevin Ellison - combined well on the left hand side, but the latter fired harmlessly over Scott Shearer's goal from 25 yards.

Tommy Doherty then came within inches of firing his first goal in 17 months as his venomous shot flew just wide on eight minutes before the Seals' French midfielder Damien Mozika entered referee Darren Drysdale's notebook for a foul on the impressive John Mousinho five minutes later.

Wycombe's defensive set-up was looking more resilient than in previous games but a lack of communication between Shearer and Mike Williamson almost allowed Ryan Lowe to sneak between the pair before Leon Johnson was alert to clear the danger.

But it was the home side's defensive frailties which gave Wycombe the opportunity to take the lead on 26 minutes, although nothing should be taken away from the superb technique shown by John Mousinho to grab his first goal for the club he's supported all his life.

Scott Shearer received the ball in his area and quickly played it out to left-back Craig Woodman, whose long ball forward was carried by the wind over the Seals' backline and was met by an excellently-timed run by the midfielder, who clipped the ball over the onrushing John Danby from 25 yards before watching it bounce into the net.

The lead could have been doubled four minutes later as a dreadful first touch from defender Shaun Kelly sent the ball towards the feet of Chris Zebroski inside the box, but the striker seemed to be caught by surprise as he lifted it over the crossbar with Paul Linwood quickly closing him down ten yards out.

Tommy Doherty then volleyed high and wide before being shown a yellow card for a foul on Kevin Ellison, while a superb right-wing cross from Mousinho was inches away from Zebroski's outstretched boot on 41 minutes as the Wanderers finished the half on top.

Simon Davies' half-time team-talk seemed to have a positive effect on his men as they began the second period the stronger of the two teams, and Scott Shearer was forced into making a smart save from Ryan Lowe's volley after Anthony Barry's free-kick was deflected to him at the back post.

Lowe was then cautioned for a foul on 59 minutes before missing a gilt-edged chance four minutes later which ultimately proved costly. Again it was Ellison who supplied the opportunity, threading a fine ball through the middle for Lowe to latch on to, but his effort from inside the box was saved by the leg of Shearer under pressure from the home defence.

Two minutes later, the Blues had the chance to seal the game as neat play by Zebroski forced left-back Laurence Wilson to bring him down inside the area, and Scott McGleish grabbed the ball to slam home his 200th career goal despite John Danby diving the same way.

The second goal seemed to knock the wind out of Chester's sails and after half chances from Zebroski and Ryan Lowe, McGleish will feel he should have doubled his tally as another smart cross from John Mousinho was met with a powerful header from the striker which rattled the crossbar from just six yards out.

The lively Zebroski could then have grabbed his first goal for the club as he danced into the area before shooting into the side-netting, and Laurence Wilson's yellow card for a foul on Gavin Grant was the last action of any real note before the referee called time on a professional performance by the Blues.

Peter Taylor's men must now prepare for the arrival of Lincoln City on Saturday, who began the season as one of the bookies' favourites for promotion before losing three games in the first week of the campaign.
