Tommy Doherty's loan spell ended prematurely with a red card as ten-man Wycombe suffered defeat on their first league visit to Milton Keynes.
The Dons raced into a 2-0 first half lead thanks to stikes from Keith Andrews Izale McLeod from the penalty spot before Tommy Mooney pulled one back for the visitors before half time.
Jermaine Easter headed Wanderers best chance of the second half against the post before McLeod wrapped up the contest with a late third for the Dons, that all coming after Doherty had been sent off in the 79th minute for a second bookable offence.
Like the low winter sun at kick off the game got off to a bright start with both sides having sights of goal in the opening two minutes. First Clive Platt headed weakly straight at Jamie Young from McGovern's deep cross whilst seconds later at the other end Mike Williamson saw his goal-bound header from Matt Bloomfield's corner blocked.
However an exciting start to this Bucks derby was soured by an incident which was the cause of real concern for Blues midfielder Matt Bloomfield. Dons right back Gareth Edds barged Bloomfield into the advertising hoardings by the left hand touchline incensing the Wycombe players and management just yards from the incident.
To everyone's relief Bloomfield got to his feet after lengthy treatment but was to play no further part in the match being replaced by Stefan Oakes on the left side of midfield.
Incredibly not only did Edds escape a booking but MK Dons were awarded a free kick and from in should have taken the lead. Edds long ball forward was flicked on by Platt into the path of Dyer who's shot was parried by Young with McLeod directing the loose ball wide from close range.
The home side were looking a threat coming forward and took the lead on 16 minutes. Dean Lewington's excellent cross from the left was turned goalwards by Keith Andrews before catching a crucial deflection off Mike Williamson taking it past the wrong-footed Young.
Minutes later another Lewington cross almost created a carbon copy goal but this time Platt couldn't divert the centre goalwards.
After Antwi's header was saved by on-loan Northampton keeper Lee Harper from Oakes free kick the home side moved into a 2-0 lead from the penalty spot.
A neat ball forward by Aaron Wilbraham found McLeod in the area who went down under the challenge of Williamson before stepping up to take the penalty himself rolling the ball down the centre of the goal as Young dived to his left.
It was by no means one-way traffic and Wycombe pulled one back through their captain just after the half hour. Drissa Diallo's poor ball out from the back went straight to Grant who's excellent first time pass set Easter away. The Blues top scorer drew two defenders before unselfishly squaring the ball for Mooney who slotted a tidy finish under Lee Harper.
Wycombe had their tails up and put the Dons under a short spell of real pressure with on-loan Leeds defender Paul Butler throwing himself in the path of Williamson's shot whilst Oakes struck another long range effort just over.
HT: 2-1
Ikechi Anya replaced Anthony Grant at half time and saw plenty of the ball on the left side of midfield as the Blues made a positive start to the second half.
Easter headed straight at Harper from Anya's cross before Doherty's ball would have seen him clear on goal were it not for a linesmans flag. Wycombe may even have had claims for a penalty as Diallo held back Easter in the area.
Kevin Betsy then forced a smart save from Harper at his near post as Wanderers good start to the second half continued to go unrewarded.
The introduction of Scott Taylor gradually began to signal the start of a change in impetus as the Dons enjoyed a good spell midway through the half. The impressive Lewington struck the crossbar from long range before O'Halloran made a vital block from McLeod.
Good work from Taylor then set up Dyer who was wasteful before moments later Wanderers were reduced to 10 men when Doherty received his second caution for dissent and was dismissed.
However the Blues still almost snatched a equaliser. Easter headed powerfully against the post from Anya's pin point cross whilst Williamson was allowed to run a very long way before working the goalkeeper with a long range effort.
But McLeod ended the contest with his second curling in a superb effort from outside the area with 3 minutes remaining. This all as Will Antwi tried to get the referee's attention to stop the game after he'd accidentally caught Taylor. Wycombe were again aggrieved, and Antwi booked, but that aside takes nothing away from the quality of McLeod's strike.
