Clint Easton skips past Dean Bennet and Jon Walters |
Another five goal encounter saw Wanderers beat Wrexham comfortably at the Causeway Stadium.
Goals from Kevin Betsy and Tommy Mooney sandwiched between Nathan Tyson's twelfth and thirteenth strikes of the season were enough to see off the Red Dragons who had little resistance to a determined Blues outfit.
The game never looked like slipping from Wycombe's grasp and even after Mark Jones had pulled one back for the visitors ten minutes into the second half, a swift response from John Gorman's men all but ended the contest.
Gorman told wwfc.org. "We keep scoring goals and it was a tremendous performance from start to finish. But it was nice to see that Wrexham came to win the game and I thought it was a good advert for the league.
"They're a good little football team and Darren Ferguson is a very good player. It would have been nice for the result to have been 4-0 but they did well to score."

Torres: effective |
The manager had brought the ever exciting Sergio Torres back in for the game after Rob Lee had to withdraw with an achilles problem.
Joe Burnell, who would have provided a like for like exchange with Lee, was back in contention but with the former Bristol City man returning after a week on the sidelines, Torres was given the nod and exploited his chance to the fullest.
Like Wanderers fans have come accustomed to see, the flair-filled Argentinean was as busy as ever and would count himself unlucky not to score after a couple of opportunities came his way, created from his own persistence.
The first half was something of a stroll in the park for Wycombe who could have been 2-0 up inside ten minutes had it not been for the linesman's flag. Both Mooney and Betsy were found alone in the penalty box but were adjudged to be offside after rounding young keeper Michael Jones and slotting into an empty net.
Tyson then came close to breaking the deadlock after Darren Ferguson had acrobatically volleyed an effort over the bar for Wrexham. Quick thinking from Stefan Oakes provided the chance when his free kick found Roger Johnson on the far post.
The captain did well to redirect a header across the face of the six yard box but defenders Dennis Lawrence and Dave Bayliss did enough to put the striker off.

He wouldn't have to wait long for another chance though when Jones, for all his ambition and willingness to make an impression as understudy to first choice Michael Ingham, misjudged the bounce of Oakes' lofted ball and let Tyson run free.
Oozing confidence, the 23 year old finished it off in the most audacious fashion, stooping to his stomach to head it in off the ground.
Wrexham responded well for an initial period and Mark Jones in particular was lively for the Welsh side, forcing Frank Talia into a routine save following Robbie Foy's tee.
Jon Walters could have done better on 22 minutes when the experienced Ferguson cleverly supplied him with a chance on the edge of the area but the former Hull City frontman hastily shot wide.
And that was a costly miss as a minute later Betsy followed up his hat trick against Mansfield with a neat finish to make it two. Danny Senda zipped a ball forward and although Betsy showed great skill to take it in his path, Bayliss would have been unhappy to have let it pass him so easily.
The 29 year old slipped just before he met the ball and with the Blues midfielder setting himself a target of fifteen goals for the season, it's chances like this one that he's sure to gobble up and he did in expert fashion, enticing Jones forward and side footing it beyond him.

Further opportunities fell to Tyson, Mooney and Matt Bloomfield, who's shot deflected inches wide, but it was 2-0 at the break and Wycombe were cruising.
That was carried into the second half and on 49 minutes, Torres was denied by Jones after a bursting run from inside his own area. It was a deserved save from a keeper they call 'Carrots', something he'd definitely been eating plenty of to help him see the shot over the bar.
And his plaudits were recognised minutes after that stop as the outfield Jones handed Wrexham a lifeline when out of nothing his unexpected drive, from no less than 20 yards out, beat Talia all ends up.
Fortunately for Wycombe the two goal lead was restored when Tyson showed he can do more than just score goals. From deep inside Blues territory the hard working hitman, who had chased down lost causes all evening, fought off a whole host of Wrexham players to supply Mooney with a chance to net his fourth of the campaign.
When opportunity came knocking, he made no mistake from 12 yards with a calm and collected finish that all but guaranteed the points for the Blues with half an hour still on the clock.

Ferguson: experience |
Dean Bennet also saw his fierce drive whistle past the upright and substitute Jamie Reed could have grabbed a consolation right at the death.
But that wasn't before Tyson had notched his brace on 81 minutes following a mazy run from Betsy and with it set up an intriguing fixture with fellow high flyers Chester City next week.
Gorman added. "It's not a coincidence how we're playing. We never slipped mentally tonight and the overall team has got so much strength.
"They played a high line and we knew we could get in and catch them out. Tommy Mooney deserved his goal because he was outstanding and you can't beat winning 4-1 at home."
