The Blues continued their unbeaten start to the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Lincoln City on Saturday afternoon, thanks to a rare strike from Craig Woodman.
The ex-Bristol City left back scored his first goal in a Wycombe Wanderers shirt with a rather fortunate effort that looped over Lincoln keeper Rob Burch after thirteen minutes.
Peter Taylor was able to name an unchanged side from the 2-0 victory over Chester City the previous weekend, though Gary Holt did make the bench after missing two games through injury.
Lincoln City's Stefan Oakes missed out on a return to his old club with a calf problem and was forced to watch from the stands as the Chairboys came out of the blocks with all guns blazing.
They could have found themselves ahead in the opening forty seconds, as John Mousinho cracked in a dipping drive after wonderful battling work from Chris Zebroski.
The Amersham born midfielder was only denied by a smart stooping save from Burch in the Imps goal.
Five minutes in the Blues continued their relentless push towards goal, as Gavin Grant saw his goal bound effort deflected just wide.
Just two minutes later the home crowd came within inches of delirium once more, as a bizarre mix-up in the City defence came close to gifting Wycombe a lead.
Lee Freckington's back pass caught Burch completely off guard, but rolled agonizingly wide of the post.
It seemed only a matter of time before the Wanderers took the lead and so it proved, as Craig Woodman opened his account for the Chairboys with a fluke effort.
Not many will begrudge the ever reliable full back this goal though, as his mistimed, chipped cross floated over the City goalkeeper and dropped into the net.
Craig's family and friends were watching from the stands, and so the Bristol born defender couldn't have picked a better time to score his first goal in the quarters.
The Imps were restricted to speculative efforts from Frecklington and Kerr, as Wycombe went in at the break one goal to the good.
Lewwis Spence picked up a slight thigh strain and was replaced by nathan Ashton in time for the second half, as the Wanderers looked to go for the kill.
It was the visitors though who almost got back into the game early on, Mike Williamson's uncharacteristic error allowing Danny N'Guessin to dash through on goal before seeing his shot blocked out for a corner.
Gavin Grant was looking lively on the right wing once more, firing into the side netting just before the hour mark after spinning his marker impressively on the edge of the box.
Scott McGleish was looking for his 201st career goal and was only denied by more smart thinking from Rob Burch in front of the Valley End, the ex-Sheffield Wednesday glovesman denied 'Scotty's solid header with a brave save low to his right.
City had their best chance of the game with 25 minutes remaining, as Scott Shearer fumbled a cross and was left only to watch on as Ben Wright hooked the ball goalwards.
Mike Williamson was on hand to make up for his earlier error, with a tremendous game saving block on the goal line.
The away side just couldn't push on form that opportunity however, as Wycombe began to reassert their dominance.
Chris Zebroski had been exhibiting the superb work rate that has become a hallmark of his performances so far in a Wycombe shirt and he almost doubled the lead twenty minutes before full time.
He cracked a shot across the face of goal and just wide of the post, after neat work on the left hand side.
The ex-Millwall forward came close once more just moments later, this time his drive was denied only by yet another reactionary save from Rob Burch.
The chances for Peter Taylor's side to finish the game off were coming thick and fast, and perhaps none better than the one presented to Scott McGleish on the 83-minute mark.
Nathan Ashton showed blistering pace on the left wing before swinging a ball into the area, where the ex-Barnet forward saw his header cannon off the bar and away from danger.
In truth it was shaping up to be a well earned three points for the home side and if any goal was coming it looked to be for the Chairboys, as Gavin Grant saw yet another effort palmed away by the outstanding Burch in the dying moments.
Blues fans had to put up with just three minutes of added time before referee Mr Hegley called a half to proceedings, leaving the Wanderers three points better off than they were at the same stage last season.
Chesterfield are sure to prove a tough test as the squad travel up to Saltergate next Saturday, but confidence surely wont be an issue after an assured performance at Adams Park on Saturday afternoon.
