TOP FLIGHT STARLET JOINS THE BLUES

Posted on: Wed 18 Jan 2012

Gary Waddock has moved to strengthen the Wanderers defence by bringing Louis Laing to the club on a one-month loan deal from Premier League outfit Sunderland.

The 18-year-old centre-back, who can also operate at full-back, arrives at Adams Park with experience of representing England at four different youth levels and was described by ex-Sunderland boss Steve Bruce as having "an outstanding future" after impressing for the club during their pre-season campaign last summer.

New Black Cats manager Martin O'Neill has allowed his former club to borrow the 6'3" defender until Tuesday 14th February, meaning he will be available for the clashes with Rochdale, Brentford, Tranmere Rovers, Sheffield United and Yeovil Town.

Waddock said: "Louis will be a good addition to the group and I'm really pleased to have him on board.

"We've seen him play a number of times and I know there were some Championship clubs looking at him as well so it's great that we've been able to bring him here."

Laing said: "I'm very happy about it. It will be a great experience for me to play in the first team and I hope I can help the team get out of this rough patch.

"I see myself as someone who can play the ball out from the back but can defend as well, so I'd like to think I can do both sides of the game."

Louis will wear shirt number 3 during his time with the club.
