MATT PLAYS BUT ENGLAND BOW OUT

Posted on: Tue 27 Jul 2010
Wanderers whizkid Matt Phillips played the final 20 minutes as England U19s were beaten 3-1 by Spain in the European Championships semi-final this afternoon.

Phillips was introduced in the second half by head coach Noel Blake after scoring the goal that booked the Young Lions' spot in the final four against hosts France on Saturday.

Despite England's exit their top six finish in the tournament has secured them a place in next year's U20 World Cup in Colombia.

England: Rudd, Clyne, James (c), Caulker, Baker (Bostock 18), Mellis (Noble 59), Cruise, Thompson, Donaldson (Phillips 71), Delfouneso, Nouble.

Unused subs: Nicholls, Brown, Malone.
