MCCLURE'S FIRST TEAM AIM

Posted on: Sat 24 Jul 2010
Matt McClure has set his sights on the first team after a stunning individual display in Wednesday's 6-3 win over Uxbridge.

The young hot-shot stole the show with a four-goal second half blitz in front of the watching Blues boss Gary Waddock.

"I want to break through to the first team this year," he said. "I had ambitions of breaking through last year but it didn't happen so it's made even hungrier to do it this year.

"Getting my first goal for the club as a young professional will boost my confidence and hopefully help me work my way into the team against Reading on Saturday."

The Northern Ireland U19 international scored 26 times last season for the club's youth and reserve teams and during loan spells at Burnham and Wealdstone.

Matt said: "I've scored goals at every level I've been at. I know I can finish so I think I can bring something to the squad. I'm ambitious.

"I'd like to think I've got a bit more to my game than just being a finisher but goals are the main part of it."

The striker's performance drew big praise from Waddock. He said: "He took his goals well, he's a good finisher and that's what he's about.

"He's a good young player with work to do but if he keeps scoring goals you can't ignore that."
