GAZ EXCITED BY START

Posted on: Sat 19 Jun 2010

Gareth Ainsworth says it's a "big plus" that the Chairboys will kick-off their 2010/11 npower League 2 season at home.

Wanderers welcome Morecambe to Adams Park on Saturday 7th August, in a repeat of the opening day fixture in the club's 2008/09 promotion season.

The clash with Sammy Mcllroy's Shrimps is followed by a trip to Stockport County, before Ainsworth gets his first taste of the M40 derby.

Talking exclusively to wwfc.com, he said: "I think it's great we are at home first - that's a big plus for us. Having looked at the first five fixtures, I don't think we could have asked for much more. We're at home on the opening day and we also have a derby game in front of our own fans early on.

"These are the sort of fixtures you are in the game for. We seem to have done pretty well overall. We're at home on the opening day, the final day and on Boxing Day.

"We want to hit the ground running and start well. It's going to be a good season and I'm really looking forward to it. Promotion is a realistic aim.

"I hear that season ticket sales are going really well, which is fantastic news. We need the fans to continue supporting the team like they did last season."

While the fans' favourite is excited about the start of the new campaign, he is also relishing going head-to-head with his former club Lincoln City, who he scored 37 goals in 83 games for during a two-year stint in the mid-90s.

He said: "On a personal note, the Lincoln games will be very emotional for me. I haven't been back their for 14 years so I am very much looking forward to that one."
