Matt Bloomfield will be living the student life next week when he begins his Sports Writing & Broadcasting degree at Staffordshire University.
'Blooms' will spend four nights in the university's own accommodation rather than commuting the 288-miles commute to and from his home in Reading.
During his two-year fast-track degree, the 26-year-old will complete most of his assignments online from his Berkshire base but he will also be required to attend the university for five-day blocks during the close season and one Wednesday a month throughout the football campaign.
"I heard about the course through Lawrie Madden (ex-professional footballer and lecturer at Staffordshire University) and the PFA (Professional Footballers Association)," he explained to
wwfc.com. "I'm really looking forward to it and seeing how I get on.
"I wanted to do something that interested me and this certainly fits the bill."
He added: "I love football, whether it's playing or talking about it. The degree will offer me the opportunity to extend my knowledge of football and further understand the role of the media."
The customary 2-for-1 student deals on drinks will surely be on offer, but Matt is fully focused on continuing his close season training regime.
He said: "There's a gym there so I will go from the course to the gym, grab some food and then head to bed."
