KEV: 'WORDS CAN'T DESCRIBE IT'

Posted on: Mon 19 Apr 2010

Kevin Betsy was labelled as the "hero of Buckinghamshire" by team-mate Gareth Ainsworth after grabbing the last-minute winner in Saturday's clash with MK Dons, but the goalscorer was at a loss to explain his feelings at the final whistle.

After a frantic goalmouth scramble as the clock ticked towards full-time, Betsy kept the coolest head inside stadiummk to fire home with the help of a deflection and seal a win which could prove pivotal in the quest for League One survival.

"Words can't describe it," he said. "It's a fantastic feeling to score goals and it couldn't be much better than to do it at a stadium like this and against a club like MK Dons, especially while we're in a relegation dogfight.

"Since the gaffer (Gary Waddock) came in we don't like to talk about relegation but we knew it was a massive game for us. We keep trying to do the best we can and it's taken a bit of time, but things have started to click now.

"We went through stages where you're depressed on a Saturday night but the last three games have been great for us - I just hope we can continue these performances and give ourselves a chance. We've just got to worry about ourselves and stay in this division.

"That's three wins on the bounce and there's been some tremendous performances from everyone."

Betsy laid on both goals for his former Southend team-mate Alex Revell at stadiummk and the winger says the pair have a "telepathic understanding".

He said: "I know Alex well and he knows me well. He's done well since he's come in and shown what an excellent finisher he is with his two goals.

"We've got a telepathic understanding because I can read his runs easily, and when you've got finishing of his capabilities, it helps you."

Kev's own display drew high praise from boss Gary Waddock, who revealed his delight at Betsy being the man to settle the Bucks derby:

"He's been outstanding for us in recent weeks and he loves this football club. It's nice for him to get the goal here in the dying seconds of a derby game and that keeps us fighting to stay in this division."
