GARY: RESULT SAYS IT ALL

Posted on: Sun 18 Apr 2010

Blues chief Gary Waddock told the press that the 3-2 victory over MK Dons on Saturday revealed everything about the character of his side as they continue to battle for survival against the odds.

Kevin Betsy's winner with the last kick of the game sent the travelling support into dreamland, and capped a perfect day in which every member of the Wycombe squad showed the qualities needed to keep their season alive:

"It just tells you everything about that group of players," Waddock declared. "When you look back at the whole game and the way they (MK Dons) got a goal right at the end of the first half, and then we concede a penalty, and yet still come back from all of that, it tells you a lot.

"The lads showed character, desire and a never-say-die attitude, and they played good stuff at times as well.

"This is not an easy place to come to and MK have had a difficult week, but it's about us and what we do, and I'm absolutely delighted," he added.

Talk of a 'difficult week' was rather putting it lightly after a chaotic few days at stadiummk which had seen them roundly booed by supporters after the 0-0 draw with Oldham on Tuesday, before manager Paul Ince handed in his resignation on Friday.

But while Waddock acknowledged that the situation may have benefitted the Blues, he also commented that he is only focused on matters within his control:

"There was a lot of uncertainty about what's going on and you don't know how their players are going to deal with that. You have to take every advantage you get, but it's not about the opposition, it's about us. If we keep winning games and playing like we did today, we've got a chance.

"To come here and win is a big ask, but that's three on the trot now and there's a lot of confidence and belief now. Next weekend's game (at home to Swindon) is going to be massive and there's a lot to play for, but we just need to keep showing the same attitude and work rate.

"We've got three massive cup finals to turn this season around."
