GARY: FANS DESERVE U'S WIN

Posted on: Fri 26 Mar 2010

Blues boss Gary Waddock is keen for his players to deliver the win that the Chairboys fans deserve when they take on fierce rivals Colchester United.

Despite some good recent performances, the Chairboys travel to Essex on the back of two heart-breaking draws, with last gasp equalisers from both Oldham and Exeter costing Wanderers four valuable points.

But the gaffer believes there would be no better tonic for the club's loyal supporters than to see their team secure three points against their old adversaries at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

"To be fair they [Blues fans] deserve a win and three points," he told Chairboys Player.

"Obviously against Colchester that would be great for everybody at the club, but even more important for the fans. They'll enjoy that if we can get them three points and that win."

The reverse fixture back in October was Waddock's first game in charge of Wycombe, and although he admits having mixed feelings about the 1-1 draw at Adams Park, the Blues boss can't wait for his second 'derby' experience.

"It was great to be in charge of the team going into that game and knowing how big a game it is, it was a proud moment for me," he said.

"I would like to have won it and possibly we could of, but I'm looking forward to the game Saturday. It's going to be another interesting contest I'm sure."

The U's are big favourites to come out on top, largely thanks to their strong home form which is currently the third best in League One behind Norwich and Millwall.

Yet a win over the latter highlights that Wanderers have played some of their best football away from home this season, and Waddock believes that his team are more than capable of repeating the feat in Essex.

He said: "We've mentioned over the last couple of weeks how well we've played against sides like that and the players have been confident and played well away from home.

"Underdogs sometimes cause big upsets and there's no reason why we can't do that on Saturday."
