BIG MATCH PREVIEW: EXETER

Posted on: Sat 20 Mar 2010

Wanderers will be looking to build on their impressive second half display at Boundary Park last weekend when they entertain Exeter City at Adams Park on Saturday (k.o. 3pm).

Kevin Betsy's 49th minute strike looked destined to be the winner in Greater Manchester only for Pawel Abbott to deny the Blues a vital win at the death from the penalty spot.

But despite conceding so late, Gary Waddock says his side can take plenty of confidence from their final 45 against Oldham into Saturday's hugely important clash with Paul Tisdale's 20th placed Grecians.

Talking to Chairboys Player, he said: "We're disappointed we didn't get the three points. The first half wasn't a particularly pleasing performance from us.

"We said to the players at half-time 'you need to up it' and they did. We were unfortunate with the decision at the end and it felt like a loss, but it's a point away from home and it could be a valuable point for us."

Wanderers know a victory this weekend would significantly close the gap on opponents Exeter and potentially move them to within only five points of safety with nine games still to play.

However, the Blues will have to demonstrate all their battling qualities to overcome an Exeter side buoyed by their first win in 10 games against Bristol Rovers on Wednesday evening.

Opposition View:

"We have to look for a win on Saturday, I don't know how, but that is the plan and we haven't got to go and chase the game on Saturday.

"We start the game with a clean-sheet and a point, and we will take it from there."

Exeter boss Paul Tisdale, speaking to the Western Morning News.

Team News:

Wycombe: Matt Bloomfield is a doubt with a dead leg, while Stuart Green is struggling with a calf problem. Leon Johnson and Ian Westlake remain out.

Gary Waddock said: "The long-term lads are still out. Blooms has got a slight dead leg and Greeny has got a calf problem but the other lads are OK."

Exeter: Barry Corr returns after suspension but may have to settle for a place on the bench. Corr was ruled out for five matches following his third red card of the season, in the 1-0 defeat at Millwall on February 13.
