GARY GUTTED AT LATE LEVELLER

Posted on: Sun 14 Mar 2010
Gary Waddock was left understandably "very disappointed" after a late penalty denied his battling Blues a vital victory at Boundary Park.

Oldham striker Pawel Abbott secured a share of the spoils for the hosts after captain Adam Hinshelwood was harshly adjudged to have handled in the area.

A frustrated Chairboys chief said: "The decision has been a killer blow for us because we needed the three points; it's as simple as that.

"Sometimes you wonder when you are going to get them [three points] when decisions like that go against you.

"Today was an opportunity for us to get three points and a big decision went against us. They are turning points in the season."

Reuben Hazell headed the Latics in front on 29 minutes before a spot-kick from Matt Harrold and a long range drive from Kevin Betsy looked to have won it for the Wanderers.

But Abbott's 89th minute strike denied Wycombe what their much-improved display had deserved.

Waddock said: "We took the game to Oldham and for that to happen so late in the game is a blow to say the least. But you don't have them [three points] until the final whistle and we didn't get them.

"We didn't take our chances when they cropped up, but to come here and play like we did in the second half and return with just a point is very disappointing. That just tells you how far we have come."
