Blues chief Gary Waddock felt his side were struck by nerves in the 0-0 draw with Carlisle on Saturday, following the shock setback of the 4-3 loss to Stockport the previous week.
Neither side were able to create many goalscoring performances in a tepid affair at Adams Park, and Waddock feels that his side's lack of cutting edge in front of goal was due to the pressure applied to the team after that defeat in the north-west:
"I can't fault the players' effort but we just lacked a bit in the final third," he said. "I felt that everyone was a bit nervous - there was a lot going into the game because of the result last week; everyone was on edge and there was no need to be.
"Like I say, I can't fault their work rate but we were looking for more quality in the final third. We tried to rush things - in the situation we're in, players get tense, and we need them to relax so that we can get the best out of them.
"The game was a bit dead and it was very quiet. I think the crowd were nervy as well, but we're not going to get out of the position we're in if we're tense. We have to relax, and try and play football to get results," he added.
The point leaves Wycombe four points from safety with 11 games remaining, and although Waddock had been hoping for a victory over the Cumbrians to edge the Blues even closer to safety, he feels that a draw may be sufficient at the end of the season:
"We wanted the win and I would have taken a goal in the 91st minute - it doesn't bother me when the goal comes. We didn't get the result we were looking for but you cannot fault the players - they had a right go.
"A point today could be the point that keeps us up. There's enough games and enough points to get out of it, and it could - and probably will - go right down to the wire. It's never over until it's over," he added.
