Fans favourite Gareth Ainsworth will prove his devotion to the cause when he stands behind the goal to support his team-mates during Saturday's crucial game against Carlisle United at Adams Park. The former Q.P.R. star is banned from playing after being sent off against Millwall earlier this month. He told wwfc.com today: "I am absolutely gutted that I can't play and I felt I owed it to the lads to do something for them. I hope as many fans as possible will join me behind the goal because this is a really important game and we need all the support we can get."
Ainsworth, who had a spell on loan at Adams Park earlier in the season, was shown a red card five minutes after coming on as a substitute on his full debut. He said: "The referee thought I'd deliberately struck the Millwall lad in the face, but that was never my intention and my record of only two red cards in over 500 games proves that I'm not that type of player.
"I'm really disappointed that I can't play my part on the pitch on Saturday, but helping to rally support for the lads is the next best thing.
"I've always got on well with the fans at every club I've played for and I'm looking forward to being among the Wycombe supporters for such a big game."
Gareth, who used to be lead singer in a rock band, quipped: "I'm a newcomer to Wycombe so I'll have to learn a few of the fans' songs, but I'm really up for it and hopefully we can get a good atmosphere going."
